Fashion Week Makeup Trends You Can Actually Pull Off

Getty Images

London, Paris, New York, Tokyo. Fashion Week is when style powerhouses showcase concepts that will influence trends for seasons to come. Of course, beauty is no exception. Fashion Week makeup trends can be so gorgeously avant garde you might think they won’t translate to everyday wear. This is a misconception. With a little innovation and the right vision, you can effortlessly take these looks from the runway to your everyday.

BLUSH BOMBS

This bold Fashion Week makeup trend will get you blushing big time. Blush Bombs transform traditional highlighting with an explosion of color. Chanel, Reem Acra, Adam Selman and many others showcased this look in a range of bright pinks and coral to easy tones of bronze. Most notably, Kenzo featured bursts of pink and red hues with coordinating lips for a daring effect.

To temper down this adventurous look for an everyday approach, simply opt for a blush a few shades more intense than usual. (After all, this look is meant to create a bang!) The key is to apply blush on the highest points of your cheekbones, across the temples and then extend onto your eyelids for a jolt of dimension.

Kristen Stewart pulled off the Blush Bomb trend with a sophisticated mauve color that seamlessly paired with her red carpet look. We also love the subtly iridescent iteration from the Fenty Puma show, featuring a pearly pink flush.

The Blush Bomb trend is bold, daring and some might say, incredibly cheeky.

RAISING EYEBROWS

You probably would’ve never thought what a big deal your eyebrows would be. They’ve come so far as to become a cultural phenomenon, where getting them “on fleek” is ultimate beauty goals. It comes as no surprise that untamed (yet strategically tamed) eyebrows have been spotted on runways all over the world. Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta, Public School, Thakoon and Novis have showcased bold eyebrows styled up and out.

To get the unruly eyebrow look, simply tend to a few strays and fill in the sparse areas. This gives your face a slightly edgier, more symmetrical appearance. Use a brow comb to brush the longer hairs upward in the direction of their growth, trimming any excess as needed.

If you’re weary of going for Cara-level eyebrows, try starting with a tinted brow gel that’s two shades darker than your natural hair color. If you’re a bit more daring, apply a super-fine eyebrow pencil to shade and fill in gaps. Focus on creating feathery strokes like those seen at Giorgio Armani and Etro for a more brazen effect. Finish off the look with a luminizing enhancer under the brow.

With these simple steps, you can effortlessly get a bold brow without splitting hairs.

EYELINER, INTERRUPTED

3 Spring Makeup Trends You Can Pull Off. Eyeliner.

There’s a fine line when it comes to eyeliner trends. Winged, smudged, cool or colored, eye-lining is a powerful technique that can effortlessly transform your look. On the most coveted Fashion Week runways, makeup artists are breaking from the norm and showcasing eyeliner — interrupted. Opening Ceremony, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Elie Saab and Fendi are all crossing the line, creating unexpected visages.

Get the Look:

Fashion designer Aalto presented a subtle yet incredibly edgy version of this trend. Using a black kohl liner, draw a line from the middle of the lid outward. On the lower lash line, draw a corresponding line from the middle outward, as well as at the inner corner of the eye. This creates an incredibly graphic treatment that adds modern twist to your everyday look.

We are equally as obsessed with the version seen at the Marni show, featuring an upside down version that extends in both corners of the eye. Try looking on the bright side by pairing an interrupted line with a vibrantly colored shade of red like the one seen at the Hussein Chalayan show.

When it comes to eyeliner, these runway looks have taught us there’s no need to stay inside the lines.

LIP SERVICE

4 Fashion Week Makeup Trends You Can Actually Pull Off. Bold Lip.

Monochromatic makeup is having a moment — and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere anytime soon. The technique of matching your makeup in the same color family is incredibly flattering on all skin tones. Recent Fashion Week runway shows have taken this trend one step further by coordinating lip color with clothing. This elevated approach has been spotted at Valentino, Maison Margiela, Jason Wu, Acne and many others. With just a few swipes of lip color, you can also accomplish this incredibly bold head-to-toe look.

Get the Look:

Use your outfit as the foundation for your color selects. Depending on the color palette featured in your ensemble, choose a lip color that’s a more vibrant shade within the same color family. For example, Au Jour Le Jour featured a pretty, muted pink outfit  perfectly complemented with a deep berry color, giving the ultra feminine look a little bit of edge.

On the other side of the spectrum, Custo Barcelona’s metallic purple number was paired with a soft purple shade with a blue undertone. Verus took it to the next level by combining a brilliant marigold look with an intense shade of persimmon that’s illuminating.

The takeaway from this runway trend: beauty and fashion should always (lip)stick together.
