National Best Friend Day is here again! We were so touched and teary-eyed last year when you shared your BFF stories with us we want to hear it again. What has your bestie done for you in the last year that makes her or him the creme de la creme of friends? Did she send you flowers when you were sad? Did she laugh hysterically at your ex’s overly contrived Instagram post? Is she simply beautiful inside and out? C’mon, let’s honor our best friends, a.k.a the family we CHOSE!
Where would we be without our best friends to experience one existential crisis after another? To proofread our sordid text messages? To showing up as your go-to for shopping for mundane stuff, like Spanx? To tell us we have cilantro in our teeth? I mean, am I supposed to zip this dress up myself?
Whether you guys are two peas in a pod like Oprah and Gayle or perhaps complete opposites, show how much you love your BFF. Send her a pizza. Create a playlist that reflects the journey of your friendship. To get the creative juices flowing, try “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler and “Take Care” by Drake and Rihanna to start you off. If going old school and making friendships bracelets tickles your fancy, make sure the words “Best Friends” are obnoxiously brightly colored so people understand you call dibs and that your friend is absolutely off limits.
In honor of National Best Friends Day, we’ll be talking about friendships all month. Our favorites besties will dish the thick and thin. We’ll talk about how the qualities that separate your gym buddies from those in “Best Friend Territory.” Maybe it’s years of history (Jen Aniston and Andrea Bendewald have been besties for more than 30 years). Or maybe it’s your mutual love for peanut butter? We’ll even talk about how to make new friends as an adult because–let’s face it–adulting in the friend department can be hard too.
