3 Ways to Practice Self-Care During High-Risk Pregnancy

3-tips-for-self-care-self-love-high-risk-pregnancy-meditate-pray-advice--beauty-and-the-beat-blog

Hey B&B friends! I know I’ve been a little MIA over the past several weeks, but I[‘ve been preparing for one of the biggest blessings of my lifetime… having a baby boy! Yes, I’m expecting my first baby any day now and while I’m absolutely excited to be on the home stretch–it hasn’t been the easiest process. At the start of my second trimester I experienced some complications that took my pregnancy from normal to high-risk. Of course this news made me anxious and afraid of what to expect regarding the wellbeing of my child and myself. However, as a God-fearing, praying and meditaing yogi, I refused to let my fear overpower my faith.

Here are 3 ways that I practiced self-care during a high-risk pregnancy

1. Keep a journal to document your feelings

Pregnancy beings forth so many thoughts and emotions, so when you layer on the potential of there being complications, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed with different thoughts and feelings. Writing was my outlet. I didn’t keep a traditional journal that I would write in every day. (In fact, I didn’t journal on a daily basis.) However, I used the notes app on my phone to write poems about my journey. I also wrote letters to my son to let him know how much he is loves and how much of a blessing he truly is. This was extremely therapeutic.

2. Lean on your loved one for advice and support

With this being my first pregnancy, everything felt like a learning experience. The best way that I was able to maintain a sense of sanity was by asking friends and family who are parents if they ever experienced any of the things that I was going through. The crazy thing is, many of them had or knew someone who had experienced it. Of course, I always asked questions to my doctor and I was not one to shy away from calling their nurse’s emergency hotline if anything out of the norm happened, but it was definitely comforting to know that I wasn’t the only person in the world experiencing certain things.

3. Lean into the power of prayer and meditation

I’m a firm believer in using your words to manifest blessings and truth into your life. One of my favorite quotes is “Pray hardest when it’s the hardest to pray.” I am always speaking health, wisdom, compassion and greatness over my baby’s life. Although, my second trimester was the hardest time of my pregnancy, it was the time where I really found comfort in prayer.
