Confident in your beauty?
What a joy it is to be Black, Proud and Confident in Your Beauty. You’ve been waiting for the release of one of the most anticipated movies for Black Folk: Black Panther. It shows you in your rightful place as Kings, Queens and technological geniuses. Let us not forget the Shamans and herbalist that played a major role as well.
The women in the movie were phenomenal, yet I read an article that talked about the lead actress Lupito Nyong’o and her challenge with her beauty. What’s the challenge? She, like many Black Women, have difficulty in seeing themselves as beautiful.
Get over it Black Woman, you’re the most gorgeous, the most beautiful woman on the planet. Don’t believe the hype about your skin being too dark or your hair being too kinky/nappy. Your skin is soft and smooth as a baby’s bottom. And hair is in sync with the Universe, the Universe that spirals in coils. The coils of your hair give you a direct connection with the Creator Source. Like attracts like, you know, so be proud and confident in your beauty.
As for your chocolate covered skin, it reigns supreme when it comes to absorbing the nutrients from the Sun and everything else Mother Nature has to offer. However …
Your Black Will Crack!
Sorry to burst the bubble of so many of you that think you can just get by with little to no care for your beautiful black skin. You’ve been given the gift of melanin. Melanin is what gives you color in your complexion.
Guess what? If you don’t take care of your gift, it will begin to show you what lack of care looks like. You need to cleanse, tone and certainly moisturize your skin, especially if you live in frigid climates or have dry skin. You even need a moisturizer if your skin isn’t dry, just not as much. Some of you don’t like the color of what you see in the mirror and therefore, you bleach your skin.
Why Do You Bleach Your Skin?
You’ve been taught from very early in life that your dark complexion wasn’t beautiful. They lied to you! For those of you that don’t like your dark skin and want to change what the Creator has provided, you’re at risk of changing more than your complexion. This is what happens when positive words aren’t whispered into the ears of young women. We grow up thinking that the lighter our skin the better we look. That’s not true at all.
When you set out to change your complexion with the products that are found on shelves or prescribed by doctors for that matter, the ingredients are not always good for you. Hydroquinone, is the major ingredient used for bleaching and whitening your skin. Did you know that hydroquinone is banned in most countries outside the U.S? Studies have shown hydroquinone to contribute to liver and kidney damage. This is what happens when you’re not in love with and confident in Your Beauty.
James Brown sang and co-wrote with his bandleader Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis a song called: Say It Loud, I’m Black and I’m Proud, in 1968. Not only did it become an anthem for the struggle our ancestors were facing at the time, it was also a mantra for you to accept the beauty in your blackness. Are you Black, Proud and Confident in Your Beauty? Leave us comments and tell us what you think.
That’s it for this week. As always …
