Cannabis in beauty products? I’ve been waiting to see what the powers-that-be would say and do when it comes to cannabis. It’s not a new “herb” in the space of alternative or medicinal solutions. People of color were growing, harvesting and making medicinal products and clothing using hemp long before it became “fashionable”.
For those of you “young” enough to have lived through the ’60’s and ’70’s, you’ll remember terms like: hemp, marijuana, Mary Jane, a joint, herb as well as pot. People spoke of being able to “chill out”, “relax” in today’s terms and not have a care in the world.
Not a lot was said about the health benefits of cannabis, at least not in public. The image was all about care free hippies that didn’t want to conform to the ways of the world at that time.
Now in the 21st Century, Marijuana is being rebranded. From controlled substance to a new and healthy lifestyle product.
Cannabis In Beauty Products, The New Ingredient
CBD which is short for cannabinol (the non psychoactive cannabis derivative ) could actually become the next skin care panacea. CBD is already being praised for its ability to ease PMS pain, sore joints and moderate mood disorders.
Why all the fuss when it comes to cannabis and skin care? Cannabis is known to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-aging properties. In addition, the hemp oil contains omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids. They provide moisture and protection from sun damage.
Whether we know it or not, there’s a growing interest in Cannabis for its alternative approach to lifestyle beauty choices. I came across a book in a well known book store with recipes of how to make marijuana infused lotions, massage oils and ointments among other things.
Some Dermatologist are hope of the results from CBD testing on acne patients. Some believe CBD could eclipse prescription steroids for the treatment of acne.
A study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology showed that CBD actually appears to turn off the uncontrolled skin-cell growth associated with cancer.
Cannabis Topical’s in Beauty Products
What are topical’s when it comes to caring for your skin? We’re talking salves, oils, warming balms, lotions and sprays. More often than not, topical are used for localized pain relief such as sore muscles, tension and inflammation. Some creators of cannabis products add essential oils to their blends to get the enhanced benefit of the blend.

There’s so much information coming out about cannabis and it’s benefits in beauty products. For a lot of African American’s, cannabis has healed wombs and relieved joint ailments for centuries.
