Are the New Trends in Eyebrows Good for African American Skin
The new trends in eyebrows are Ombre and Microblading. Thin is no longer in when it comes to eyebrows. The thicker the better. Although they are considered the treatment to have at this time, when it comes to adding depth to your brows, are these services actually good for African American skin?
What’s the difference in Microblading and Ombre Eyebrow Services?
What is a Microblading Eyebrow Treatment?
Microblading is a tattooing technique where in a small handheld tool makes tiny needle like holes and manually inserts pigment into the upper layer of your skin.
The thing about this treatment is that you can’t go swimming, you can’t perspire. As a matter of fact you can’t even bring water near the eye browed area. Did you know that your body just might reject the ink being used?
You’ll need to book for a check up after 10 weeks. Once your skin care therapist tells you all is okay, your next visit will come in 12-24 months. Your skin type will tell you how often this should happen.
What is an Ombre’ Eyebrow Treatment?
Ombre’ brows are also known as powder brows or shaded brows. This is a semi permanent make up procedure whereby you insert pigment into the top layer of your skin. It’s done as a two step process with the initial insertion is touched up after 6-8 weeks.
You use two different colors to get the lighter darker appearance of an ombre’ brow. After about two weeks, you’ll begin to see ombre’ brows fully heal. However it will take 4-6 weeks for the true color to reveal itself.
The thing to remember is that you are cutting the skin, especially with microblading. This leaves your melanin at risk of keloids and hyperpigmentation. With oily skin, you run the risk of having blurry brows.
Costly?
These services are cheap. Services on the low end can cost $199 dollars and on the upper end of the spectrum, prices have been seen at $1500 especially for microblading.
Do your research on these two services before you get them done. There are positive and horror stories when it comes to microblading.
That’s it for this week. As always …
