How to Actually Help Minimize Acne on Darker Complexions

How to Actually Help Minimize Acne on Darker ComplexionsAcne on darker complexions? It’s true that darker complexion beauties face different issues when it comes to acne challenges. Still, people of all backgrounds and ages suffer from at least one of the many types of acne.

The level of diagnosis and suffering from these bumps can also vary. For some, it may just be a random breakout of pimples every now and then.

Unfortunately, for many others, it can be more frequent and severe in its level of visibility and discomfort.

One of the most important things that you can do is begin to cater to your own skin types. Your skin types can be dry, oily, or a combination of the two. With combination skin, treatment needs to balance oily skin while keeping dry skin soothed. Finding the right regimen may take some time, but it’s well worth it.

Working to Understand What Causes Acne is Difficult but Necessary.

It comes in many forms. There are painful cyst and nodules that are inflamed and tend to hurt. Blackheads can also pop up due to the overproduction of oil and dead skin. While it may sound like dirtiness is the cause of blackheads, think again. They can’t be cleansed away because they form due to the reacting of oil in the air, a fact that is commonly shared by medical professionals. Opposingly, whiteheads will appear, which occurs when oil and skin seal off the hair follicle.

One of the benefits of your skin is that it is less likely to form the more severe types of acne. Breakouts are never a good thing, but it is far easier to deal with annoying pimples instead of hard, painful bumps.

On the downside, African Americans are often among those who are faced with more extreme scarring and hyperpigmentation. It has actually been reported that scarring and discoloration tend to be a far worse problem than acne itself.

Hyperpigmentation and scars can take some time to get rid of. By the time it has been remedied, there are likely to be more pimples that will soon disappear and leave more scars. This is what keeps the seemingly unending cycle of hyperpigmentation and an uneven complexion going. Many theories have been thrown out there, but more research is needed when it comes to determining the causes and treatment for African American skin.

Let’s Talk About Hair for a Second.

Why would we be discussing hair while on the topic of acne? Hair is actually quite relevant to face pimples and the reason behind it is simple. What you put in your hair easily transfers to the skin on our face. When you use products that are harsh or greasy, it clogs your pores and leaves the skin irritated. Consider using gentle or natural hair products to avoid unnecessary problems. If you have yet to understand natural hair care, just ask yourself one simple question before making a purchase. Do the ingredients in this product seem safe enough not to cause an acne flare-up?

Prevention and Natural Solutions is Key.

Whether it be hormones, medicine, stress-induced, or due to your diet, the most important element of treating breakouts in teens and adult acne is to prevent it. In order to properly prevent it, we must first do our best to locate the source of acne triggers. Many people have found success by journaling their activities and breakouts and taking notes of the commonalities that occur right before the breakout happens.

Others have found that over-the-counter products aren’t agreeable with their skin, and natural solutions are better suited to their needs and sensitivities. Using raw honey for combination skin is a perfect example of this.
Over-the-counter solutions are many, but are more likely to cause irritation. Terms you will commonly see are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and chemical peels. When it comes to dermatologists, antibiotics are another frequently prescribed method.

While antibiotics will clear acne for some, there can be another unfortunate side-effect, which is antibiotic resistance. Once the body becomes resistant to antibiotics, they fail to work properly to protect us against skin issues and illnesses.

Not only are natural solutions reigning as the safest and effective way to go, their benefits are long-term, and they can repair hyperpigmentation as they work to stop breakouts and clear skin.

Nutrition and the Role it Plays in Treating Acne.

Those yummy desserts and fried food may taste good, but they could also be having a negative effect on your skin. It’s no coincidence that so many doctors and medical experts say that our internal health shows on the outside.  This means a lifestyle change might be in order.

Cutting out sugary sodas and drinking more water can help to rejuvenate you from the inside out. We know it isn’t always easy to change your eating habits, but starting off with this step can cause a noticeable difference that will most likely inspire you to keep going and take your health more seriously if you want beautiful skin and increased energy.

Few things can compare to looking as good as you feel. When we eat better, we feel better and we look better. By paying attention to what you put into your body and on your skin, you’ll be well on your way to skin you can be proud of.

Okay … that’s it for this week. As always …
