Great skin in the springtime … During the winter season, and into spring, the world has been told to Shelter in Place. You’ve lived in fear and anxiety for at least 4 months. This means you probably didn’t give a hoot about your skin. Especially the skin on your body.
When you were told to work from home, the skin on your body got even less attention. Your face continued to at least get its basic regimen … cleanse, tone and moisturize. After all, the grocery store runs couldn’t let you be seen looking to ruff.
I’ll be honest, some of you said the heck with it. You didn’t even try. Your mask covered most of your face and heavy clothes covered the rest of your body. Guess what? You skin got ignored.
Want Great Skin? Springtime is Here!
Warmer weather means more skin exposure for some of my beautiful black sisters. This is not always a good thing. Let’s face it, as the flowers begin to blossom and show off their beauty, some of you begin to show off your assets. Not so fast, we’re still being told to Shelter in Place. Some states are relaxing this rule, others are holding it in place.
I have to laugh because some of you have shared that you grew whiskers. Never again will you skip your threading or waxing appointment. It’s springtime, which means it’s time to give your whole body some tender loving care.
Where should you begin? The best place to begin any approach to caring for your beautiful black skin is with a skin care regimen.
Springtime … A Good Season to Have Great Skin
Exfoliation – No only has your skin been under layers of clothing for the past 4-5 months, it’s been under stress. It’s time for it to wake up to a full body exfoliation treatment. Even if your skin hasn’t been hidden under layers of clothes, there’s nothing like a body scrub. Remember when your mom used to wash your body so hard it felt like she was going to rub your skin off?
That was your first experience of a full body exfoliation treatment. The soothing part came when she’d rub you down in lotion, cream or a nice oil. Your skin would feel so soft and smooth.
As you peel away the layers of clothes and watch the flakey, dry, ashy skin fall from beneath them, this is a sign of needing a full body exfoliation treatment.
You can create your own in home spa oasis. One way is to get a body butter scrub, flowers, music, essential oils and treat yourself to a Saturday morning home spa party.
When you don’t exfoliate your skin, you get a dull grey ashy look to your skin. Take off your socks and you’ll see what looks like snow falling from your legs and feet. These are dead skin cells that have been waiting to be removed and when you don’t exfoliate, this is why you get an ashy film that covers your skin. Plus new cell growth is slowed because the old cells are stacking up on top of each other on your skin.
Moisturize – Once you’ve cleansed and exfoliated your skin a wonderful moisturizer is the logical next step.
Moisturizers are best applied to your skin right after your bath or shower. Olive oils, Shea butter, jojoba oils or a combination of the three make great moisturizers for your skin.
Here’s to beautiful black skin!
If you give yourself a full body exfoliation treatment every ten days you’ll see an improvement in the texture and appearance of your skin.
