Beautiful skin. As Black Women, you’ve got an advantage when it comes to beautiful skin. Your melanin gifts you with hues that enhance your beauty. I’m talking the beauty of your natural complexion. You’re the only woman on the planet that has the ability to come in different hues.
Here’s the thing, stress can change your complexion overnight.
So What Do You Look for in Stressed Skin?
Dull, Ashy, Gray Skin – You can see dull, gray, ashy skin surface when you’re stressed. It’s often a sign of dehydration. There are three ways to approach this. One, is to exfoliate your skin so that you’re removing the dead skin cell buildup. Two, is to drink plenty of water to hydrate from within. And three, is to use a good natural moisturizer on your skin.
This rule of thumb applies to your face, as well as, the rest of our body. The key is to use products that are appropriate for the varying skin types. Yes, the skin on your face and the skin on your body, require different products for care.
Acne Challenges – Whether you’re an adult or its your child, acne will surface in times of stress. As adults, when pimples and zits show up, its definitely a sign of stressed skin.
A good skin care regimen will come into play. Cleaning your skin twice a day will help keep excess oil at bay.
Irritated Skin – If your skin is beginning to flake, itch or even shows hives, it’s possible your skin is under stress. A good skin care regimen is extremely important with irritated skin. Cream based cleansers will help.
Control Your Water Temps …
More importantly, will be the temperature of the water you use. Lukewarm is the best temperature for your skin cleansing needs, be it your shower or bath, with irritated skin.
No rubbing your skin. Therefore, you’d be better off gently patting your skin dry.
Lastly …
No sponges or brushes. They will only aggravate the irritation. Use your hands to cleanse and apply your products. You can use a washcloth to remove any products from your face, making sure it’s warm water.
Stressed skin …
Life in general will bring stress to the table. It’s the added stress of the global pandemic that’s contributing to a lot of your skin care challenges.
You can work your way through stress with breathing exercises, listening to music, changing your focus and exercise.
Let’s not get it twisted, this is not easy to work through. Yet with effort, we’ll all come out of this year, hopefully, wiser and with better direction for the coming year.
That’s it for this week. As always …
