The holiday season in the middle of COVID is here. Is it adding stress to your life? I’d say that’s a big, Yes!
Most people use the Thanksgiving holiday to spend time with family. Not in celebration of what is typically taught in school, but in giving thanks for an opportunity to spend time with family members they haven’t seen in years.
Aunt Ruth and Aunt Jean show up with their armor helmet wigs, bringing a big smile to your face as you wonder what’s underneath. One thing about their presence is, you’re guaranteed the best potato salad and sweet potato pies to pass your lips.
Aunt Doris, the silver hair fox, brings in homemade ice cream, Oh, … my God, to top off Aunt Ida’s sour cream pound cake.
This is why we come together at Thanksgiving, not for the story about the pilgrims.
This Year … the Holiday Season is in the Middle of COVID
The holidays for some reason, bring stress to a lot of people. In past years, you’d be Frantic over whether or not there would be enough food for the 30 people you’ve got coming.
Yet, this year there might only be four of you and, your stress level is magnified to the 25th power.
How do you find and stay calm in the middle of COVID this holiday season?
- Zoom and Face-time your family. If weddings and funerals can be broadcast, so can family dinners over the holidays.
- Check on your elders. – Make sure they’ve got food, water, heat, socks and sweaters.
- Unless you’re prepping for the next few days, prepare just enough food for those dining with you. No need to ware yourself out.
- Limit your TV and Internet news time. No need to get caught up in the politics of the day. You could take this attitude into the new year when it comes to news.
- Limit your outings. Make a list of what’s needed and then plan strategically how you will maneuver the crowds and get your shopping done.
- Take time to lock yourself in the bathroom and enjoy a long hot bath. There’s nothing like creating a womb for you to feel safe and protected.
The Stress and Anxiety of COVID
COVID is new to our existence. To be real about it, people are dying in bigger numbers than we know. If they are blessed enough to survive, they are now burdened with respiratory challenges and heart conditions.
Not only are you at risk, but your children, parents and friends are also at risk. Don’t take any unnecessary chances, by planning a big gathering under the guise of Thanksgiving dinner. Too much is at stake.
Pray that you and your family are safe for months to come. Maybe, next year you’ll have the celebration you’ve longed for this year.
That’s it for this week. As always …
