The Actual Essence of You, Your Natural Hair and Your Essential Oils

The Actual Essence of You, Your Natural Hair and Your Essential Oils

Is your Natural hair the essence of You? What makes you who you are? Did you know that your hair is a defining characteristic of who you are?

I’m talking about your natural hair. The hair that you came to the planet with. That hair is how you communicate with the universe. Your natural kinks, coils and curls nurture themselves from the sun. Could your hair be part of your genetic makeup?

Were You Taught to Hate Your Natural Hair?

There was a time when Black women were taught to hate their natural hair. Don’t believe it? Why do you think, press and curls, relaxers, perms and weave have been and still are so popular?

The beauty industry has always been run by people who look other than you. Their complexion isn’t like yours and their hair certainly isn’t like yours. So how can you look to another being and allow them to tell you how your hair should be taken care of?

The pioneers in the beauty industry that look like you, started their companies to help you manage your kinky hair. They used herbs and essential oils to create products that would help your scalp as well as nurture and condition your hair.

They too ventured into creating products for straightening your hair, moving you further away from your natural connection to the Universe. It might sound strange to talk about your hair and the Universe in the same sentence but your kinky coils spiral just like the Universe does. Have you noticed how much better your scalp feels or how your thinking is clearer when you don’t have chemicals bombarding it.

Essential oils have often been used to soothe many scalps. By creating serums, pomades, shampoo, conditioners and hair oils, essential oils have a natural home in these products and can be used for the betterment of your hair.

4 Essential Oils That Are Used in Natural Hair Products.

One of the most popular essential oils used for natural black hair care is Rosemary. It’s known to help with hair growth and reduce hair loss. Rosemary essential oil is also the oil of choice because it helps improve cellular generation an improve the thickness of your hair.

Lavender essential oils is known to speed up hair growth. Lavender is known for its antimicrobial and antibacterial properties. This makes lavender oil great for scalp health.

Tea Tree is antibacterial , antimicrobial and is known as a powerful cleanser. Tea tree is known to help unplug clogged hair follicles and increase hair growth.

Lemongrass is your go-to-essential oil if you’re challenged with dandruff. It is said that lemongrass is most effective when used daily.

About usage …

No essential oil should be used without diluting it first. With kinky, curly, coiled hair, you should not use oils everyday on your scalp. Every two to three days is fine. Another thing, it’s better to mist your hair with water to soften it up and then mist your scalp with your essential oil blend. The key to using essential oils in your natural locs is to massage it into your scalp, slowly bring the oil to the tips.

This will help with protecting your hair and keeping breakage at bay. You do not want to over use any product, especially an oil based product. Although your hair is natural, it could make it heavy and become a dirt magnet.

Your hair in its natural state, can often be fragile. So using an essential oil based product can work as a protective styling product as well.

Let us know in the comment section if you’ve used essential oils on your natural hair.

That’s it for this week. As always ….
