From dull and gray to radiant and beautiful. Yes my Dark skin beauties, this can be you and your skin. As the weather changes and the water begins to dry your skin out, you can ward off some of the trauma. How so? With a full body scrub.
Like so many of us this time of the year, dull and lifeless skin is what the mirror returns as an image. Just means it’s time to slough away dead skin cell buildup.
How Do You Go From Dull and Gray Too Radiant and Beautiful?
A body scrub can come to your rescue. Look for ingredients like Shea butter, a lightweight oil, sea salt and cane sugar. We like to say it’s a body butter scrub.
Why this combination or blend of ingredients. Shea butter and oil will help with softening your skin as you slough away dead skin cells from your skin. Sea salt and sugar can be traumatizing to your skin if they don’t have a foundation to rest in.
The trauma often comes from adding too much pressure as you maneuver the salt and sugar over your skin. I’m guilty of this. My thinking was the harder I massage the solution over my skin the more dead skin cells I’ll remove.
Even worse can be walnut and apricot shells type scrubs. This is what we were introduced to as a way of exfoliating out body. Do they work? Yes they can. They can also dry your skin out.
Like any type of exfoliant, when too much pressure it added, you can break the surface layer of your skin and cause damage.
This type of damage can cause hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tones.
Little did I know, I was causing surface trauma and breaking my skin. When you embed salt and sugar into Shea butter, you give yourself the luxury of moisturizing and polishing your skin.
The result? Dull and gray become radiant and beautiful.
How Often Should You Use a Body Scrub to Go From Dull and Gray to Radiant and Beautiful?
You can look at this as a spa-like moment once a week. A lot of you like to treat yourselves to a scrub after your shower. Your skin is moist enough to easily remove dead skin cells with the right solution.
A pair of thongs/shower shoes will be beneficial to keep you from slipping. Especially since some scrubs contain oil.
Your bathtub is another way to scrub away dead skin cells. Before you run your tub with water, moisten your skin. Then apply your scrub massaging it all over your body and then immerse yourself into your tub.
Your body will benefit from sitting in the oils and salts and you will benefit from the few minutes of relaxation you’ve given yourself.
When It’s All Said and Done …
A good body scrub is an excellent way to maintain radiant and glowing skin. Make it part of your weekly self-care regimen. Don’t have one. Now’s a good time to start.
That’s it for this week. As always …
