Black Business Month: 5 Ways to Celebrate and Support Black-Owned Businesses

Although Black Business Month is officially celebrated in August, at Shoppe Black, we believe that supporting Black-owned businesses is important every day, 24/7/365.

That’s why we’re committed to providing a platform for Black entrepreneurs to tell their inspiring stories and showcase their products and services.

Black Business Month is a time to recognize the successes of Black entrepreneurs and to encourage others to support them. It is also a time to educate the public about the challenges that Black businesses face, and to advocate for policies that will help them to succeed.

History of Black Business Month

Black Business Month was founded in 2004 by Frederick E. Jordan and John William Templeton. Jordan, an engineer, and entrepreneur, had his own personal experience of the challenges faced by Black business owners when he began his own firm in San Francisco in 1969.

He partnered with Templeton, the president and executive editor of the scholarly publishing company eAccess Corp., to create Black Business Month as a way to “drive the policy agenda affecting the 2.6 million African-American businesses” and to “highlight and empower Black business owners all over.”

Black Business Month has grown in popularity over the years. Today, it is a time to celebrate the successes of Black-owned businesses and to educate the public about the importance of supporting them.
