I had the time of my life last weekend. I went back to my home state to attend Pharrell’s Hot new music festival Something In The Water in Virginia Beach, VA!
As soon as I saw the announcement and the lineup I knew I had to be there. I got a media pass through work and planned my trip back home.
I hadn’t been back to Hampton in awhile but definitely made some stops around the city before heading across the water
I met my friends Fallon & Dionne in Chesapeake and we prepared for an epic weekend.
Virginia Beach and surrounding areas seemed shook about this festival coming to the area. An additional 45,000 people to the area definitely had people thinking it would be pure chaos — from traffic to rowdiness. Well, I’m happy to say there were no issues. Everything was so smooth from the shuttles to the festival schedule
Now Friday unfortunately had really bad storms in the area so they ended up canceling Friday around 8 PM. No big deal! I was super excited about Saturday and Sunday’s performances.
My friend won tickets through Verizon and they had a VIP section just for them! Score!!! We had the best views the whole weekend. Shout out to Verizon Up!
With the water to one side and the boardwalk on the other, it was such a great ambience for this festival! (Better than dusty Coachella lol) To me the best performances were the Pharrell and friends set which brought out everyone from Timbaland to Missy to even a surprise Jay-Z performance. I love me some Charlie Wilson so he’s always great to see. Chris Brown was also high up on my list.
I don’t listen to a lot of current music but I really enjoyed watching Travis Scott as he got the crowd so hype. I like watching anyone that evokes so much energy out of a crowd. Ferg also had the energy on 1000! I was already a fan, but even more now!!
Jhene Aiko gave me super dope vibes and energy and I think we would be friends if we met each other!
I’ve been to a lot of concerts and festivals and have seen most of these artists already, but it was great seeing them on the beach and in my state! The energy and crowd was on point.
In addition to the main stage, there were other events nearby in partnership with the festival.
Timberland had a cool activation near the festival where you could wind down, hydrate yourself and charge your phone. They gave items out and if you pledged to live a greener life, they will plant a tree in your honor in Haiti!
I HAD to get a pic with the huge classic Timbs.
After that, I headed to Sony’s activation and saw artists VanJess and LeiKeli47 perform. I ran into Skillz and we had never seen each other in VA so I had to get a pic!
Oh yeah, and Pharrell stopped by while we were there!!
I had an excellent weekend and I already can’t wait to come next year!!!! I know the lineup will be amazing! To be honest, Pharrell could even do Something In The Water pop-ups around the country with all 757 artists!!!! Do it!!!!!
I’ll be back next year !
More pics!
