Learn to Say NO and Feel Good About It

Learn to Say NoHave you learned to say NO, found happiness in doing so and felt good about it? I met with a group of estheticians this week to catch up on the trends in the industry.

We’re seeing a lot of you with skin and hair challenges that are the result of stress, depression and anxiety.

Your skin sends you signals … breakouts, discoloration, dark patches … these are just a few of the examples of what can happen to your skin when you don’t take control of your life and environment. Your hair on the other hand, breaks, becomes extremely dry and you find your edges thinning.

As women we tend to feel that we have to take care of EVERYONE! Yet we leave ourselves out of the equation and inclusiveness of Everyone.

So What’s a Girl To Do? How and When Do You Say No?

Caring for aging parents, helping your best friend get through a divorce, worrying about your finances, your children, not to mention your relationship can all be stressful. How do you find balance and protect yourself and your time?

Learn to focus on what’s important to you. Are you being selfish? You bet your sweet tea you are. When people ask you to help or do something for them, there’s time and energy involved. You’re committing yourself to give up your time and energy. Is this something you want to do? Determine how many hours you’ll allocate, if any and stick to it.

Don’t feel guilty for saying No. The minute you allow guilt to creep in, that’s when you’ll see, pimples and other breakouts mysteriously appear on your face.

Learn to say: “I’ll get back to you”. Taking time to sleep on it, gives you a more relaxed feeling. You’ve given yourself time to process what’s involved and whether or not you want to actually move forward with the project.

Caring for Yourself by Saying No To Others

Learn to skip the afternoon movie with the girls, and create a home spa treatment for yourself.

Allow your spouse or partner to pick the children up after school. This could give you an extra 30 minutes to an hour for yourself.

Say Yes to listening to your spirit. The inner voice, that softly whispers messages into your ear are always there to guide you. Trust this guidance, it will never let you down.

Finally …

As our group time was coming to an end, we all came to the same conclusion. Stay curious, laugh and don’t sweat the small stuff. Curiosity can be something as simple as trying a different exercise routine. We’ve all heard that laughter is good for the soul. When’s the last time you had a good laugh? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Well, a book was written about this. As you mature, you’ll learn what’s really important in life and small things that used to have you up in arms will get very little attention from you.

The greatest thing that you can ever learn, is how to say No. And mean it. Your skin, your hair, your digestive tract and your heart will thank you for it. Learning to say No, minimizes stress and anxiety to your entire body.

That’s it for this week. As always …
