Oscar Beauty Equally Rivals Oscar Flub

There are many years when a dress becomes a post-Oscars hot topic (who could ever forget Halle Berry’s strategically placed floral embroidery?). This year, all anyone could talk about is the biggest flub in Oscar history — when the beloved Bonnie and Clyde duo were given the wrong envelope for “Best Picture” and hijacked the entire show, which set off a firestorm of memes and had us scrolling Twitter until the wee hours to uncover conspiracy theories.

But before the chaos, we noticed Oscar beauty was absolutely DAZZLING on the red carpet. There were so many women who nailed the red carpet game, but here are our the three our hearts can’t stop swooning over!

Charlize Theron Academy Awards Red Carpet 2017

NY Times.com

Charlize Theron, The Ageless African Queen:

Considering she’s still commands our attention when she’s bald and kicking ass covered in dirt, Charlize slaying the red carpet isn’t a shock but a mere fact of life. This Dior Ambassador wore a chic coif in front with low ponytail. “The most important element of this style is to achieve all over shine and ensure that the hair looked healthy,” Enzo Angleri, celebrity hairstylist said. After applying Wella Professionals Oil Reflections Luminous Smoothening Oil to the ends of Charlize’s hair while it was still damp, Enzo blow dried her hair. Using an oval-shaped curling wand to create Old Hollywood waves at the front of Charlize’s hair, Enzo completed the look by gathering her hair into a smooth ponytail and setting with Wella Professionals EIMI Glam Mist.

Putting the focus on her dewy skin, the rest of Charlize’s Oscars makeup included black mascara with pale shimmery eyeshadows on her lids and inner corners of her eyes. To complete her look, legendary (I mean legendary!) makeup artist Francesca Tolot gave Charlize a sheer pink lip in Dior Addict’s Lacquer Stick in LA Pink.

Taraji Henson Academy Awards Red Carpet Glamour

Taraji Henson, Sex Box Goddess:

Did Taraji jump out of a smoldering smoke show? Baring pert cleavage in a black velvet gown with a thigh-high slit complete with a sultry pose and bedroom eyes, the Hidden Figures actress’s makeup look was inspired by the beautiful Diahann Carroll (love!).

People got the scoop from Aushunta Sheriff, Henson’s makeup artist. First of all, she prepped Henson’s skin with Dermaflash, an at-home exfoliation that smooths skin. Then she applied Kate Somerville eye balm soak in while applying a wrinkle treatment. Next, she massaged a 24-karat infused oil on Henson’s skin, followed by a primer-moisturizer hybrid to ready her skin for makeup.

Allowing her lips to soak up lip balm, Sheriff applied foundation (in Tan) from her on line on Henson’s face, then she created a subtle contour using St. Tropez 3-in-1 Bronzing Powder. And to give her complexion a “soft, romantic” feel, she dabbed Glossier’s brand new cream blush Cloud Paint in Dusk on the star’s cheeks.

After applying eye primer, Sheriff created a thick line on Henson’s top and bottom lash line with Urban Decay eyeliner in LSD. She used a smoldering blue to give Taraji to punctuate the sex bomb eyes.

“I grounded the look with black eyeliner and beautiful fluttery House of Lashes [falsies] in Wispie,” she explains. Then she gave Henson’s lids a hint of glint with NYX eyeshadow in Salmon.

Emma Stone Academy Awards Red Carpet Glamour

NY Times.com

Emma Stone, La La Land Starlet

We had our bet on Emma for Best Actress!  (Were you as in love with her London La La Land look as we were?!) According to Rachel Goodwin, Emma’s makeup artist, the look was inspired by 1930s Hollywood Glamour derived from pre-Raphite painter, Dante Gabriel Rossetti.

Her glam squad knew in advance of Givenchy gown, which gave them months to get inspired for Oscar night. Goodwin  prepped her skin with a Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask before the makeup app. Using a matte, brick red lip—NARS Cosmetics Audacious Lipstick in Mona—played well with eyes edged in smoke, while a pair of gilded Art Deco earrings were the finishing touch. As for Stone’s signature copper waves? The dreamy doings of hairstylist Mara Roszak, who fused polish and playfulness for a classic look.
