National Standard Abstract Hits $3 Billion Milestone

A New York-based title insurance firm is defying industry expectations, reaching a remarkable $3 billion in closed transactions in just ten years of operation while specializing in one of real estate’s most complex sectors.

National Standard Abstract, the family-owned title insurance firm founded in 2015, recently celebrated this milestone after closing its largest project to date—the $384 million renovation of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) Frederick Samuel Apartments in Harlem.

“Closing over $3 billion in transactions within ten years was supposed to be impossible,” said Osei Rubie, founder and president of National Standard Abstract. “The layered complexities of the transactions we have closed is a testimony to the expertise our team has evidenced over the past 10 years.”

The father-son team of Osei and Nadir Rubie has carved out a unique niche in the competitive New York real estate market by specializing in faith-based developments, which now represent over $600 million of their transaction portfolio.

Their 2024 portfolio already showcases impressive diversity, with recent closings including the $286 million Kingsland Commons development in Brooklyn by Hudson Companies and St. Nicks Alliance, a $90 million senior housing project called Grace’s Place in Queens, and a $70 million multifamily development at 19-19 Cornaga Avenue in Far Rockaway.

The NYCHA Frederick Samuel Apartments project stands out as both their largest transaction and a significant milestone—the first Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) project awarded to a minority-owned team. This $384 million renovation will transform over 660 units across 40 buildings housing approximately 1,200 residents over the next three years.

“Our goal has been to work on the industry’s complex transactions to demonstrate our expertise,” explained Nadir Rubie, partner at National Standard Abstract. “As we venture into the coming decade, we look forward to expanding our impact, locally and nationally.”

Beyond their business achievements, National Standard Abstract has extended its community impact through the Osei Rubie Charitable Fund, reinforcing their stated mission of “building one community at a time.”
