NBA Players Launch Eazewell, an AI-Powered Funeral Planning Platform
NBA veterans Russell Westbrook and Kemba Walker have teamed up with entrepreneur Donnell Beverly Jr. to launch Eazewell, a new AI-powered startup designed to simplify end-of-life planning for families.
Eazewell aims to take the stress out of funeral arrangements by offering a suite of digital tools that automate and streamline the process. The platform helps families manage everything from locating funeral homes to handling paperwork such as death certificates and obituaries. It also offers financing options for funeral and cremation services—addressing a critical gap in an industry where the majority of providers do not offer payment plans.
The idea for Eazewell was born from personal tragedy. Beverly, who serves as the company’s CEO, lost both of his parents in recent years and found the process of planning their funerals overwhelming and isolating.
“When I lost my parents, phone calls and paperwork took up time that I would rather have spent mourning,” Beverly said. “We built Eazewell so people don’t have to go through that alone.”
Westbrook and Beverly were also deeply impacted by the death of their high school teammate, Khelcey Barrs III, at the age of 16—a formative experience that planted the seed for creating a platform that could support others during moments of grief.
“Eazewell is the solution we wished they had then,” Westbrook said. “We’re turning that pain into service for those experiencing loss, providing families with someone in their corner when they need it most.”
Eazewell has already supported over 1,000 families during its beta phase. The company plans to roll out nationally and is in discussions to partner with financial and life insurance providers to offer expanded support.
The venture is backed by notable investors, including Tru Skye Ventures, co-founded by Stephen Stokols and former NBA All-Star Metta World Peace, as well as Chad Brownstein, Jeron Smith, and Will Smith.
